Buying CBD flower in Spain: a quick guide

Spain has a lively CBD scene, but the rules are not the same as in the US or the UK. Here's what to know before you order.

What's legal

CBD products from industrial hemp with under 0.3% THC can be sold in Spain. Hemp flower and hash, however, are not authorised for human consumption, so reputable shops sell them as collectible, technical or aromatic items, with a lab certificate for every batch and no health claims. In 2020 the EU Court of Justice ruled (the "Kanavape" case) that CBD legally produced in one EU country can't simply be banned in another.

What to check before you buy

1. A lab certificate (COA) for your batch, not a generic one.
2. Total THC under 0.3% on that certificate.
3. The price per gram: The Roxy is €17.90 for 5 g (€3.58/g).
4. Indoor or outdoor: indoor tends to be denser and more resinous, outdoor more rustic and better value.
5. A shop with a company name and tax ID in its legal notice, and 18+ only sales.
